Avignon, situated on the left bank of the Rhône, is well known for the Palais des Papes, where several popes and antipopes lived from the early 14th to early 15th centuries. It’s also probably more widely known from the children’s song Sur le pont d’Avignon.
Nîmes is the capital city of the Gard department with a rich history, dating back to the Roman Empire. It’s a popular tourist destination and only 15 minutes from Russan.
Montpellier is the capital of the Languedoc-Rouissillon region just forty minutes from Russan on the motorway. Montpellier is a bustling city with much of historic interest to explore alongside the modern bars and shopping.
Designed to carry the water across the River Gardon valley, the Pont Du Gard was part of an aqueduct that brought water from the Fontaines d’Eure springs near Uzès to the Roman city of Nîmes.
The beautiful medieval town of Uzès, is a short drive from Russan. Lively all year round, Uzès boasts annual festivals of dance, music, pottery, truffles, gardening, and antiques.
