Montpellier is the capital of the Languedoc-Rouissillon region. The city is forty minutes from Russan on the motorway.
Montpellier is a bustling city with much of historic interest including the Musée Fabre and mansions dating from the 17th century. Perhaps the most famous graduate of the medical school founded in 1220 is Nostradamus.
The modern university gives a young feel to the city and there is much entertainment to be had. The main focus point of the city is the Place de la Comédie. One place to definitely visit is the Jardin des plantes de Montpellier which is the oldest botanical garden in France, founded in 1593.
There is a wealth of gastronomy from the very expensive Le Jardin des Sens where Gérard Depardieu can often be seen, to marvellous open air restaurants along the esplanade.
