Pont Du Gard

Originally designed to carry the water across the River Gardon valley, the Pont du Gard was part of an aqueduct that brought water from the Fontaines d’Eure springs near Uzès to the Roman city of Nîmes.  Today it is a marvellous place to visit and experience the grandeur of Roman architecture.  The visitor experience is very well done by the French tourist board.  You can get an authentic feel for the ancient monument yet have all the amenities you want today. Parking is €5, entrance is free, and it is a half day well spent on your tour of the Gard.
